there's more

The expander package contains a few additional utilities that make coding even easier.

  • boxcomment, and it's counterpart, unboxcomment, which are closely integrated with expander. These language sensitive utilities add and remove comment boxes around selected code. boxcomment shares the service file with expander. It is used to set character sequences from which comment boxes are built.
  • revision_history, a macro that helps maintain revision histories in comments for files and subroutines.
  • align_columns, a utility to align columns delimited by a common separator.
  • align_comments, a utility that aligns parts of a number of code lines, delimited by specific character sequences. Of course it is not limited to comments.

Together with these utilities, expander makes NEdit a powerful platform for rapid prototyping. Since it was designed to reduce typing, it helps avoid errors and also reduces the strain of the many hours coders spend behind their keyboards.

expander in action

To see a live demonstration of how expander actually works, see this animated gif (26KB). It depicts a file template expansion for a mail note, and also shows off another expander field feature: the auto delete field.
