Trouble with lad_macro_file()

I tried to put my customized macro in an external file and added load_macro_file() to load it into autoload.nm. This failed with "Error executing macro: variable not set:...". But this worked when the entire macro was inserted into autoload.nm in the place of the load_macro_file() command. BTW, the error occurred for the 4th global variable, i.e. the first three were OK. I'm using Nedit 5.5. Will appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
