Just throwing something out there, but I would have to say that I don't
really like the idea moving to a complex build system like
autoconf. If a build system that is less crufty and works well could be
found, I think I might enjoy it, but as it is now, I definitely prefer
the application like NN and others which do not use autoconf, simply
because fixing things is a lot easier without having to understand the
craziness that is autoconf.
