Block shift feature behaving badly

Hi,

I was just upgraded from Redhat Linux 5.4 to 5.5 (2.6.18-92.1.18.el5) on
a Sun Ultra 24 box. I've been running Nedit 5.5 for quite a while
without a problem on Linux 5.4 and on Solaris 10 (and could not live
without it). My current desktop is KDE 3.5.4-13.el5 Red Hat.

When I select text and shift it either right or left, it works fine for
a few keystrokes (usually one or two, but up to five). Then the select
highlight "goes off" and the text line at the cursor (always the lower
right corner of the rectangle or the next line when full lines are
selected) continues shifting until I realize I'm no longer doing what I
intended.

My own Nedit 5.5 executable worked fine on Redhat Linux 5.4. I
downloaded my own 5.5 just to be safe and it has exactly the same
problem that the system file has. One other person that made the same
transition also sees this problem, but another one does not. This is
fairly repeatable, but the number of shifts (ctrl-0 or ctrl-9) varies.
Working through the menu, I've gotten up to nine or ten shifts, but the
same thing always happens (i.e., it's not my mouse). It seems a little
odd that I can get more shifts if I go slower, but on this machine -- I
don't think timing enters into this.

Everything else that I've tried seems to work as expected, but that's
not an exhaustive test. While I believe this is not an Nedit problem (I
suspect one of the thousands of KDE options), I'm anxious to hear if
anyone else has seen something like this and might be able to shed some
light on the matter.

I realize this depends on a lot of variables. I'll be glad to supply
more information if someone can guide me a bit.

Thanks in advance,
Lee
