I recognize there is no obligation for you or any other developers to
continue to support nedit. And in fact, I suspect some of the new
problems (such as the ones I am hitting) are bugs in the
openmotif/lesstif libraries due to changes in X, not nedit.
Of course, this is probably why the subject line is "Future of NEdit?"
with that question mark.
Perhaps openmotif will eventually catch up (though I have my doubts - F7
has been out quite awhile), but lesstif appears to be mostly comatose.

I doubt most bugs are distribution dependent, except to the extent that
they are running different kernel, X, motif/lesstif versions. If someone
were to take an interest in preemptively fixing things on Linux, picking
a single cutting edge beta Linux system, including a cutting edge
linuxfromscratch system, would probably be sufficient to get most bugs
before they hit ordinary users.
