Version 2.2.3. I've also checked to ubuntu+1 and upsteam Debian
for more recent packages. Unfortunately there are none on offer.

But 2.2.3 is really horribly broken.

I have at least two little recipes for causing instantaneous crashes.
Thats particularly troublesome when using nedit-nc like I do. These
are things I hit all the time have t conciously avoid doing (like
doing nedit-nc -noash file_does_not_exist) to start work on a new
file.

I've also had another instance where the text in the editor itself
was corrupted with random garbage, but I've only seen this once.

Sorry, that does not coincide with my experience. I have been using
Nedit linked to lesstif from Debian or Ubuntu for the bext part
of ten years. The recent nedit linked to OpenMotif has been by
far the worst I've ever used.
