Syntax highlighting broken for perl

"Text Escape" is just the name of one of the text drawing styles that
nedit comes with by default - there are several of the built-in
highlighting patterns using it, so the problem isn't limited to the
perl patterns.  

The error message tells you the style doesn't exist, which can
only be the case if someone deleted or renamed it.  Such preference
changes are stored in the preference file nedit.rc or formerly .nedit.
If you like to keep your preferences, you can simply re-create the
missing style under Preferences -> Default Settings -> Syntax
Highlighting -> Text Drawing Styles... 

The name of the style you know already (it's case sensitive),
Foreground Color is gray30 and Font is Bold.
