window widens when tabs added

I am using the development version of nedit, and there is a
"feature" that I do not like. When tabs are added so that
there are more than fit on the tab line, the window widens.
I like my windows to stay the size I give them. I have
previously noticed that the window widens when I open another
file in the window when it has more line numbers than the
current file being edited (with line numbers turned on).
I have learned to live with the line number problem, and I'm
sure I can live with the tab problem (reluctantly). It could
be a result of the version of Motif I'm using. Has anybody
else seen this?
Thanks,
-- Wayne.
