We tried that on a PowerPC-Book, the drive wouldn't let VLC access the
disk w/o switching region, we had to rip it first. Maybe that changed,
but it can change again, and I own too many DVDs to rely on a single
vendor's policy here. (I would have no such problems if I would have
gotten my movies from Pirate Bay. Idiots.)
This is the only thing which kept me from going Apple in the past, so
it immediately came to my mind.
