Changing key bindings in Mac OS X

Hello,

I want to change one key binding under Mac OS X.4.8: on my Pismo- 
laptop I can't access the INSERT key to switch from or to the  
Overtype mode. Therefore I created an .Xdefaults file with the  
following contents:

nedit*preferencesMenu.overtype.accelerator: [Shift]Ctrl<Key>-
nedit*preferencesMenu.overtype.acceleratorText: Shift Ctrl+-

After loading the new file with "xrdb -load .Xdefaults" the entry for  
the accelarator key in the Prefrences Menu has changed from INSERT to  
[Shift] Ctrl+- but pressing this key combination leads only to <us>  
as output in nedit.

What am I doing wrong?
