ok, thanks. 

you know, if I were u guys, i'd think about simply cutting release with what 
you have now in the development version and updating the web pages and 
everything -- and getting it into the ubuntu distro. what's on the web pages 
now is ancient, and what's in the ubuntu repositories is broken in terms of 
running it on ubuntu.

i used nedit 5.5 for several years on cygwin using the wrq x server and altho 
it worked, there were various annoying bugs I had to workaround.

just fyi/fwiw.
