Problems with altering NEdit Looks

I have been mostly successful in changing NEdit's looks to be Mac-like.
:-) however, there are a few things that are still not quite working as
intended. The first would be to change all the text fields and most of the
other fields to "snow" colors, as the "How to take 15 years off of NEdit's
Look" article demonstrates. However, I guess my version of NEdit/Motif
isn't doing things the same way. For one thing, I had to use the
preferences to set many of the color options instead of the resource file.
However, setting nedit*background: gray95 sets the backgrounds for the
fields and other such widgets that color as well, when I want them set to
snow. I have XmTextField.background: snow in my resource file, but what am
I doing wrong? Basically, I want the background of most of the end-user
widgets to be just a little less than perfectly white.
