Nedit & KDE loss of selection problems

I'm using Nedit 5.5.1, open-motif 2.2.3, KDE 3.5.6, on
FreeBSD 7.0.

When I select a region of text and move it (CTRL-0, for
example, to shift right), the selected text gets deselected
and I have to select it again. If I use the middle button
to move the text, it will become deselected after moving
it down one line, but will stay _invisibly_ selected so
that moving it one more line will magically reselect it.
So for every "odd line move count" it becomes deselected and
then selected for every "even line move count".

This is most annoying, especially since left and right shifts
lose selection permanently.

If I use the same Nedit, motif, FreeBSD, without KDE (xdm
for example), it works perfectly.

I've tried all sorts of settings for KDE, including with and
without "Apply colors to non-KDE applications". Nothing
seems to work. This problem seems to have existed back as
far as KDE 3.4.something. It used to work under earlier
versions of KDE.

Does anyone have a fix for this, either a patch to KDE, Nedit,
or some sort of KDE knob to set?
