The petition asks for an OSI approved license. The requirements for
OSI approval and free software are (almost) identical. So, there
can't be any strings attached. Of course, the Opengroup can ignore
the petition, but one can't blame the folks who signed the petition
in this case.

The chance to get say a FreeMotif v2.3 as real successor / further
development of OSF Motif v2.1 running on all platforms that nedit
runs on should get any user and/or developer of nedit at least
interested. (Getting CDE in addition could increase the interest in
Motif - anyway, it won't do any harm.)
