Probably someone's sabotaged the fonts.  Try this:

   nedit -xrm '*fontList: fixed'

Also run "appres nedit | grep font" to see what your resources are being 
stuffed with.

Additionaly, check your X server DPI.  If it's really messed up then the 
font sizes can be out of whack.  I've seen this on some monitors that 
fail to report their sizes correctly:

% xdpyinfo | grep -i resolution
   resolution:    99x98 dots per inch

If you see some really small or huge number, then you can fix that in 
the X configuration file.
