NEdit will replace the content of ~/.nedit/nedit.rc if you save your settings with the menu entry Preferences->Save Defaults. To avoid this, just restart NEdit without saving prefs first.

I know of only one reason to change ~/.nedit/nedit.rc, so I'm curious: What exactly did you change?

This is with NEdit's font dialog? Do you see the same fonts with xfontsel?

I don't think that any Motif has font settings like this. CDE has.
