I vaguely seem to remember that Lesstif didn't have that problem, so if 
you want to make sure that the workaround in CVS works, you will need to 
use openmotif.

BTW: did you set the XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS variable before you ran 
xdpyinfo? I don't see any 32-bit visuals in the list.
