Problem with paste on AMD64 Opteron

Hi,

 

I just loaded nedit 5.5 on two different new machines:

   (1) AMD64 Athlon   running in 32-bit mode on Ubuntu 6.06 under Gnome
2.14.3

   (2) AMD64 Opteron running in 64-bit mode on Ubuntu 6.06 under Gnome
2.14.3

The nedit package installed in both is the Debian package retrieved by
apt-get in the Ubuntu Dapper release, each appropriate to the machine
architecture.  

 

Nedit works perfectly on machine 1.  On machine 2, the paste function
fails entirely (both in the key binding and menu).  Cut (cntl-x) does
delete the highlighted text; I cannot tell whether copy is working.  I
find no discussion of a 64-bit or Ubuntu connection to this problem on
Source Forge or FAQs.  Is there a simple switch setting or workaround,
or perhaps a pre-5.5 version of nedit that is known to work on the
64-bit machine?  Thanks for any suggestions.
