As with every unix, you should also update the environment settings
'EDITOR' and 'VISUAL' (there might be an other too). As far as I know
(it's 5 years since I've used the nedit/hpux combi) that can do the
trick on a lot of places.
However, you should figure out where to set the environment variables
(that is, in what files) since there is an order in which various
startup files are read and processed: some parts of cde do not process
all files or that are forked before some files are processed.
