Ronald,
KDE wants to use its own color schemes and sets up some pretty bad
correspondences between its own and NEdit's. Two ways around this:

end, there's a section called "KDE color schemes and NEdit resources"
which describes how to set up better KDE-to-NEdit color matching or
to drop KDE colors for non-KDE applications completely.
Try it out and tell us how you get on.
