Getting <Alt> to Work

Wow! That works. I wonder if that's some kind of problem in Nedit, or in
X-Windows.
I've using v5.5, which was released in 2004. It's hard to believe I'm the
only one who's experienced this problem. I'll try to find a way to make
SuSE 10.1 boot with NumLock off (heck, I never use it, anyway!).
