Invisible text in the popup menus

Hmmm. Is there an app-defaults file for nedit somewhere in the system?
This is generally a bad idea for nedit. I assume you are using the "Common
Desktop Environment" (CDE) window manager (dtwm). There might be some funny
interaction between its colour management and nedit.

Do you have resources that might be getting mixed up? Does anything from
the 'xrdb -q' mention nedit? how about things referring to XmText or
XmTextField (the widgets managing the entry fields)?

I no longer have access to Solaris, so I'm relying on memory here...
