Invisible text in the popup menus

I have been using the binary download of nedit 5.5 for Solaris 9 for 
some time.  I recently upgraded to Solaris 10 and now find that in the 
popup menus for 'find', 'replace', 'open file', etc. the text in the 
form is invisible or when I type text into a form like 'find', it is 
invisable.  The file text in the main window is visable, but not in the 
popup menus.

Have you had this problem?  What did the O/S upgrade break? 

I would appreciate suggestions on where to look and what to check.
