If you would introduce emacs, you could also say, this is emacs
but please run gnu-client (whereby as additional confusion the server
mode of xemacs has a different name).
If you try to explain the server mode to newbies, you'll confuse them
right from the start with something they neither understand nor need.
Therefore simply don't do so.

Well, why not "nedit -server"? nc is obviously a command line tool,
and the name is intentionally as short as possible.
But the reason for two executables is probably historical. All what would
make sense to me is a merge of nc into nedit, ie, running in server
mode by default (w/o that the newbies know about it).
There was a problem to merge the different command line options into a
single nedit, though, if I recall correctly.
