Limit on number of files opened in tabs

I agree. To a large extent however, I find I don't need to see the whole
file name to know which it is. So the options we have are:
- crunch up the tabs until their text is invisible (you have to wait for
the tab-tip balloon to appear to be certain you're in the right place)
- horizontal scrolling of the tab bar
- multiple tab rows
- one row of tabs and a (dropdown) "more tabs" selection widget
Variations might be:
- Allow most recently accessed tabs to shift to the left end of the tab bar
so that they can be found easily
- Impose alphabetic sorting
- Drag and drop ordering
- Name crunching (where common prefixes on adjacent tabs are elided,
eg /file.c\/file.h\ could appear as /file.c\/.h\ instead
So far, I am pretty happy with what we have just now, but it's true that
there comes a point where the tabs become unusable.
