Just a hint:

Patch
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=978560&group_id=11005&atid=311005
holds an example macro, which allows to restrict number
of documents per tabbed group ("window") by split into separate
groups ("windows).

E.g. Open 300 documents, select "limit nbr. of documents" (e.g.
via corresponding macro menu entry), enter e.g. "10" and
you'll get 30 windows each holding 10 tabs.

To get this functionality you need to apply the patch first & install
the macros (contained in patch tar ball, too).
