Limit on number of files opened in tabs

Hi,
While trying out the new NEdit 5.5RC1, I tried opening a large number
of files (296 to be exact). NEdit didn't give an error message, but I
could see only 10 or so tabs, and in the Windows menu I also couldn't
see all of the files (only about 40 or so, I think). If I maximized
the window I could see many small lines at the tabs bar, presumably
these were the open files, but I couldn't access them. It looked
pretty funky :-)

What is the practical limit of the number of files that can be opened
at once, and is the above behaviour considered a bug or a feature?
