It is good that you reported it.  First, it justifies to put that
version on the known bad list. Second, Nathaniels question was if
anything with the Motif version checker that was added as help for
the NEdit users (since there are many different *tif versions
around, and some of them like Openmotif 2.2.2 and the one or other
Lesstif version cannot be recommended to be used with nedit) has
failed.  So, if you compiled with the `build broken' option, the
version information should show this (both in 5.4 and 5.5rc1).
However, in your version information it was only shown "untested",
which is for versions that have not been tested, ie, are neither
known as working nor as not working.
