I don't know. However, I tried first to build a shared lesstif
and to link lesstif into nedit statically. Result is a dynamically
linked nedit. Then I tried to build a static lesstif, which failed.

Basically, Harold Hunt has pointed out that Cygwin/X's build system
can only do either a static or a shared built of the libs, and they
have only shared libs now (must be somewhere in the archive starting
with the thread "Why nedit.org shouldn't distribute nedit"). Seems
to be special to Cygwin/X.
