Compiling Nedit under Solaris 9

Hi,

The pre-compiled version of Nedit 5.5 is working fine on my station (sun 
solaris 5.9).

I try to recompile it using gcc and setting CFLAGS=-g 
-I/usr/openwin/include -I/usr/dt/include \
        -DUSE_DIRENT -DROWCOLPATCH -DNO_XMIM

instead of the default CFLAGS definition (this is to be able to use the 
compose key of Sun keyboards to create accents (like à) under Nedit). 
This was working with Nedit 5.4.

Obviously, I get an error :

make: Fatal error: Don't know how to make target `../util/libNUtil.a'

Does anybody have an idea to solve the problem. It does not come from 
nedit but from our solaris 9 installation because recompiling nedit 5.4 
fails too while it was compiled successfully under Solaris8.
