addendum:

if the tags/tips selection dialog comes into play: all hell break
loose. ie the returned value from calltip() is again meaningless. you
can popup multiple such dialogs. these dialogs aren't modal, i mean
does anyone use the "Apply" button of these dialogs?.

I will try to fix this.
