Me to blame for the second fix.  Unfortunately, it is another one of
the priority 9 bugs, and from your comments I couldn't see you
considered the already attached patch to be complete.  Even worse,
when digging into it accordingly, I came to a different conclusion
about what's actually wrong and how to fix it.
