Summary: Backward scrolling doesn't work with Centos 5

Initial Comment:
My kind and generous SA has recently installed Centos 5 on my computer.

# cat /etc/redhat-release
CentOS release 5 (Final)

NEdit 5.4
Nov 20, 2003

Built on: Linux, 386, GNU C
     Built at: Nov 23 2003, 17:08:19
   With Motif: 2.1.30 [@(#)Motif Version 2.1.30]
Running Motif: 2.1 [unknown]
       Server: The X.Org Foundation 70101000
       Visual: 32-bit TrueColor (ID 0xa0)
       Locale: en_US

is no longer able to scroll backward correctly.

scrolling backward with the up-arrow key or the upward-pointing arrow above the scroll bar fills the window with the same single line of text. Scrolling backward with the mouse wheel repeats a block of five lines throughout the window. Dragging the scroll bar fills the window with smeared junk. Clicking in an empty space above the slider in the scroll bar works correctly so long as the window is focused at least one full page below the top of the file; otherwise it duplicates text into the window. Paging backward with the page-up key appears to work, even when close to the top of the file.

Scrolling and paging forward works.

My SA suspects the video driver (nvidia), but this is the same as with Centos 4, when I didn't have any problems.
