Nedit becomes less and less active. It is rare that nedit developpers do something to solve the reported problem. I need to know if it's time to try another editor.

You just described one of the differences between Proprietary Software and
Free Software.  In the former case you'll need the developers or owners of
the program, in the latter case you don't need them.
