Mailing lists
There are two separate mailing lists for NEdit users, and another one for
developers. Users may post to the developer mailing list to report bugs and
communicate with the nedit developers. Please keep in mind that NEdit is
entirely a volunteer effort. Treat the people on the list the way you expect to
be treated.
The lists are:
- discuss at nedit.org: general discussion, questions and answers
among nedit users and developers.
- develop at nedit.org: communication among and with nedit developers.
Developers are kindly asked to also subscribe to the discuss list.
- announce at nedit.org: a low-volume mailing list for announcing new
versions.
Mailing list usage policy
Out of necessity we have to impose a few general rules about using the
mailing lists. By subscribing and posting to the list you are assumed to accept
these. While this sounds grave, in reality the policy will not stand in the way
of the interested NEdit user and/or developer.
Firstly, the NEdit developers subscribe to both
discuss at nedit.org
and
develop at nedit.org,
either of which may be used for reporting bugs. If you're not sure, or you
think the report might be of interest to the general nedit user community,
send the report to
discuss at nedit.org.
If it's something obvious and boring, like we misspelled "anemometer" in the
online help, send it to
develop at nedit.org.
If you don't want to subscribe to these lists, please add a note to your mail
about cc'ing you on responses.
To counter spam on these lists, several measures are taken. On develop
non-member postings are filtered and manually transfered to a list if they are
pertinent. This means that your message might be delayed for a while if you are
not subscribed to the list you posted to. On discuss the amount of spam has
reached such a level that all traffic from nonmembers is summarily discarded.
If you have problems with this, contact
discuss-owner at nedit.org.
Finally, on announce posts are accepted from a few origins, and all other mail
is discarded.
Since the developers either are subscribed to the discussion mailing list or
have very good reasons not to be, please do not cross post.
Subscriptions
The easiest way of subscribing is to use the web interface:
These interfaces can also be used to modify you account, or to unsubscribe.
Alternatively, if you prefer to use your email client, please send mail to one
of
announce-request at nedit.org
discuss-request at nedit.org
develop-request at nedit.org
with the following in the body:
subscribe [password] [digest|nodigest] [address=your@address.here]
where you can specify a password, or have one generated for you if you don't
specify one. You can als indicate whether you wish to receive the list traffic
in digested form or not, with nodigest being the default. Finally, you can
specify an alternative address if you don't wish to subscribe the address
you're sending from. Similarly, to unsubscribe, use:
unsubscribe [password] [address=your@address.here]
Do not put your commands on the subject line, since these will be
ignored.
